The Son of Elohim
Who was Yeshua? – Part 1

Luqa (Luke) 1:35
And the messenger answered and said to her, “The Ruach Qodesh shall come upon you, and the power of Elyon shall overshadow you; therefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of Elohim.”

For two thousand years there has been much discussion and debate about the person of Mashiach Yeshua.  Some say that He was just a man.  Others say that He was a prophet.  Still others say that He was the Mashiach, but not the physical offspring of YHWH.  So, we are going to carefully and prayerfully examine what Scripture says concerning this matter.  In the end He is who He is regardless of what any man thinks or says about Him.  So, it is wise to see what He says about Himself to understand this important concept.

Most today understand what a surrogate mother is.  This is a woman who has agreed to carry in her womb the fertilized seed of another.  The surrogate mother contributes no DNA material to the child she carries in her womb as the egg is from another woman.  This is not uncommon these days.  In vitro fertilization is a multi-million dollar industry today.

But what most do not realize is that YHWH did this very thing two thousand years ago.  You see, what is commonly taught in Christianity cannot be true: that YHWH, via the Holy Spirit, fertilized one of Mary’s eggs.  This cannot be true because this is breaking Torah, as Mary, (actually Miriam) was not married to YHWH, but betrothed to Yoseph.

But let us read again the above passage and notice that it is not only the Ruach Qodesh (Holy Spirit) involved in placing this child in the womb of Miriam.  Rather it is also Elyon as well as the Ruach Qodesh.  Once a person sees this, then he begins to see that both parents of Mashiach were of divine origin, not just one.  Both the Father (Elyon) and the Mother (Ruach Qodesh) were manifestations of Elohim, creating in the womb of Miriam the second Adam.

When Elohim made the first Adam He did so out of substance that was pure and not cursed.  But after man sinned and became cursed, Elohim also cursed the ground because of man’s sin.  After man’s sin everything in this created realm became cursed.  As a result of that curse all of creation is laboring in a manner that is beyond its original creation.

Romans 8:22
For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.

Herein lies one of the keys to understanding the divine nature of Mashiach Yeshua.  Scripture teaches us that Mashiach Yeshua is the second or last Adam.  This should teach us that He also had shared characteristics with the first Adam that the rest of us do not share; namely, that both the first and second Adam were made out of substance that had never been cursed.  However, if Miriam contributed one of her eggs then this cannot be true, for she was born under this curse from the first Adam.  Miriam only contributed the womb, not an egg.  She contributed no DNA.

But, one will object, if Mashiach is the son of David, then she had to contribute an egg.  No, this is not true.  Still others object saying that Yeshua had to be the son of Yoseph because the seed is passed on from father to son and not through the woman.  Please notice this next passage.

Matithyah (Matthew) 3:9
“and think not to say within yourselves, ‘We have Avraham as our father’; for I say to you, that Elohim is able of these stones to raise up children to Avraham.”

YHWH our Elohim is not limited as a man is limited.  Man is limited to following certain physical limitations that YHWH placed in His creation.  However, the very Creator of DNA can create a man to be of any lineage that He so desires.  This would certainly include Mashiach being of the line of David.  But Mashiach is not only the offspring of David; He is also the Father of David, or his ancestral root.

Gilyana (Revelation) 22:16
“I Yeshua have sent My messenger to testify to you these things for the assemblies.  I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star.”

Why is it easy to understand that Mashiach Yeshua is both the root and offspring of David, understanding His pre-existent nature, but then not understand that He was these things before David was even born?  He is who He is regardless of what we believe.  He is these things because He has always been these things!  He has not changed!  YHWH is the Father of David as well as the Son of David.  Yeshua is related to David because David is related to YHWH before He became His offspring.

Malachi 3:6
“For I, YHWH, change not; therefore you, sons of Ya’aqov, are not consumed.”

But, one will object, this is speaking of YHWH, not Mashiach Yeshua.  Is that a valid objection?  Who is Yeshua?  Is He not YHWH in the flesh?  To be sure!  But let us examine this more closely to see that this is indeed what Scripture teaches us!

Ya’aqov (James) 5:7
Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of YHWH.  Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.

In referring to the return of Mashiach Yeshua, Ya’aqov calls Him “YHWH.”  This is taken from the Peshitta as this is what it records: that it will be YHWH returning.  This is a direct reference to Yeshua being YHWH in the flesh.

Yochanan (John) 3:13
“And no one has ascended into heaven, but He that descended out of heaven, even the Son of man, who is in heaven.”

Yeshua in speaking to Naqdimon (Nicodemus) tells him that not only had He descended out of heaven, but that He would also ascend back up into heaven.  But that is not all.  Yeshua also tells him, that even as they were speaking, He was also in heaven.  Once again, mainline Christianity wrongly teaches that when Mashiach Yeshua was in His earthly body He was not for that period of time Omnipresent.  However, this false teaching does not match up with the words of Mashiach Himself.  Yeshua told Naqdimon that He was in more than one place at a time as they were speaking: both on earth and in heaven.

If what Mashiach said was not true then He is a liar and a fraud and is nothing.  But it is not Mashiach who is the liar; but rather, it is man.

Romans 3:4
Elohim forbid; yea, let Elohim be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written,
That You might be justified in Your words,
And might prevail when You come to judgment.

The testimony of that which is recorded is clear, if one is willing to accept it for what it says.

Yochanan (John) 14:11
“Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me; or else believe Me for the very works' sake.”

The works that Yeshua did bear witness to His identity as well as to His nature.

Luqa (Luke) 7:22
And He answered and said to them, “Go and tell Yochanan the things which you have seen and heard; the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good tidings preached to them.”

These are all things that are spoken of in the prophets which Mashiach would do when He came.  The first one is one upon which we want to focus at this time because it is one of the most telling.  Yeshua healed many blind people.  This was to show who He is, if one is willing to receive this truth.

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 42:6-7
6 “I, YHWH, have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations;
7 to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.”

YHWH is speaking through His prophet Yeshayah about the coming of Mashiach.  YHWH states that this coming anointed one will open the eyes of the blind as well as other things.  But now look at what this next passage states concerning the healing of the blind.

Tehillim (Psalm) 146:7-8
7          Who executes justice for the oppressed?
Who gives food to the hungry?
YHWH releases the prisoners;
8          YHWH opens the eyes of the blind;
YHWH raises up them that are bowed down;
YHWH loves the righteous;

Do you see?  YHWH states that those things that Mashiach will do when He comes can only be done by YHWH Himself.  YHWH is telling us that He will be Mashiach.  We will examine this more below.

Yochanan (John) 9:16
Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from Elohim, because He does not keep the Shabbat.”  But others said, “How can a man that is a sinner do such signs?”  And there was division among them.

There was a man who was born blind.  This man was born this way for the express purpose of bringing glory and honor to YHWH our Elohim.  This glory and honor came when Mashiach Yeshua healed this man and gave him sight for the first time in his life.  This sign was of such a nature that it caused a division amongst the Pharisees.  Some of them at least understood that a man could not do such a sign, for all men were sinners.  The Pharisees rightly understood that when Mashiach came He would be YHWH.  They took due note of this sign, because no such thing like this had ever happened before, in which a man born blind received his sight.

Another thing that YHWH does in the end of days is to come and personally rescue His people Israel when things are not going well for the nation.  In this rescue YHWH states through His prophet Zecharyah that He personally will stand upon the Mount of Olives.

Zecharyah (Zechariah) 14:3-4
3 Then YHWH shall go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle.
4 And His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives shall be cleft in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

There is a day coming when the feet of YHWH our Elohim shall stand upon the Mount of Olives.  But just exactly to whom is this referring who shall stand upon that mount one day?

Ma’aseh (Acts) 1:9-12
9 And when He had said these things, as they were looking, He was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they were looking steadfastly into heaven as He went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven?  This Yeshua, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as you beheld him going into heaven.”
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Shabbat day's journey off.

Please note that Yeshua ascended into heaven just as He told Naqdimon that He would, indicating to us that this is from where He had descended.  He did this from the summit of the Mount of Olives.  Then two heavenly messengers stood near to those who had just witnessed this event take place, and told them that He would return in like manner, and that He would return to this same mount one day, to the Mount of Olives.  It just so happens that this was prophesied long ago through the prophet Zecharyah.  But in that prophecy we are also told that the Mashiach is YHWH Himself.  On that day we shall all understand with the greatest of clarity that Mashiach is in fact YHWH Echad.

Zecharyah (Zechariah) 14:9
And YHWH shall be King over all the earth; in that day He shall be YHWH Echad, and His name Echad.

This passage points directly to the Shema.  But this passage is found in the midst of a section which is dealing with the coming of Mashiach to rescue Israel from the clutches of the nations.  On that day, the day when His feet once again stand upon the Mount of Olives, we shall all know and see Him for who He truly is; that being YHWH Echad!

In part two of this study will well examine Isaiah 53 verse by verse.

Abba YHWH, open our eyes to Your Redeemer that we may come to Him; in the name of Mashiach Yeshua.  Amein and amein.
